Businesses should be in Australia and offer only vegan products and services. That excludes items with ingredients from bees.
Businesses That Sell Products
Businesses that sell products must have either
- vegan owners OR
- at least some products that are uniquely vegan.
What’s uniquely vegan? For example, if you sell coconut oil and goji berries, that’s not uniquely vegan – they’re going to be vegan regardless of who sells them. (At least at present, when commercial and organic agriculture are considered vegan.)
On the other hand, if your coconuts and goji berries are wildcrafted or produced by veganic farming, that would be different. If you only sold vegan chocolate, that would also be uniquely vegan since not all chocolate is vegan.
Service Businesses
Service businesses must have vegan owners. Again, this follows the uniquely vegan idea. For example, let’s consider the fictional case of a yoga teacher called Shari. Her business could be considered vegan, even though she might eat meat and use animal products in other areas, possibly even in her teaching eg leather yoga shoes.
But if Shari was vegan, she wouldn’t eat meat and would avoid using other animal products, so that would make her unique in terms of what vegans are interested in.
Ads, Promotion and Fundraising – For Others
If a key part of what a business does is run ads, promote, or help raise funds for others, this must be related to being vegan. For example, advertising a vegetarian restaurant that offers vegan options is related – helping to raise funds for a hospital that serves meat isn’t. The thrust of what a business promotes, however, must not only be related, but be vegan.
