Last year the University of Queensland ran a survey on Impressions of Vegetarians.
Over 700 people completed it, 90% of them vegetarian. Last month, intial results of the survey were released.
More vegans than vegetarians participated, with vegans making 55% of respondents, vegetarians 35%.
The environment and health played second fiddle – actually second and third fiddle, in that order – to concern for other animals as the main reason for taking up a flesh-free diet.
The results also confirm that most vegans started as vegetarians.
